At the start of the New Year, we asked our
Facebook fans to tell us what their destinations of choice would be for 2012.
Well, the results are in, with Sharm El Sheikh, Spain and Ibiza all proving popular with the voting masses. So far, so sunny. But apart from some much needed warmth, what else do these destinations have to offer this year? Let's find out...

Fish on the reef in Sharm el-Sheikh by Matt Kieffer
Sharm el-Sheikh
The resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt have long been a favourite of travellers looking for cheap all-inclusive holidays during the winter months. And with the temperature of the Red Sea sticking around a balmy 20 degrees throughout February, there's absolutely no shortage of Sharm el-Sheikh hotels for divers who want to join the shoals of brightly coloured fish investigating the shipwrecks and coral at the world renowned Ras Mohammed National Park. But if you prefer exploring life above the surface, you can always get yourself on a scenic sunset wander through the surrounding deserts on camelback (comfort not included).
Spain
It's not just the mild weather, quiet resorts and cheap hotels that make Spain the first choice for winter wanderers. At the moment the exchange rate is the best it's been for 18 months, and last week the Post Office annual Holiday Money Report named Spain as the best value European holiday destination for Brits. The best bargains are to be found at coastal Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca hotels, but if the sea is a little too chilly for anything but toe-dipping, then daytrips in and around these regions are the way forward. For example, if you're staying in Benidorm, you might want to head over to the nearby town of Villajoyosa - also known as the Chocolate City. Need we say more?

Ibiza Old Town (Dalt Vila) by Dave Hunt
Ibiza
If you don't fancy joining the all-night ravers who flock to Ibiza's clubs and bars over the summer months, then you might want to schedule your visit in May or October. As the party scene winds down during the early and late summer months, a more peaceful atmosphere prevails. Not only will you find cheap deals on Ibiza hotels, but the cooler climate and lack of crowds make this the best time to take in the scenery, architecture and fine restaurants of Ibiza's Dalt Vila - or ‘High Town' -where historic cobbled streets lead you up to a towering Medieval castle. You'll also find the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows, not to mention some picturesque views of the surrounding harbour.
