La Oliva stands on the edge of a lava flow with a mountain of sand, called Montana Arena, rising up in the background. The village is situated in the north of Fuerteventura approximately 4 km outside of Corralejo and some 40 km from the Airport. There are quite a few tourist attractions such as the House of the Colonels and the arts centre with has beautifully landscaped gardens and featuring many works by the Canarian artist Alberto Manrique. Visitors can head to El Cotillo with its marvellous beaches and lagoons and a detour of about 9 km will take you to the lighthouse, Faro de Toston, boasting marvellous coves ideal for picnics. La Oliva village offers excellent bars, restaurants and food stores, reflecting the tastes and characteristics of the locals. The major resort of Corralejo with its spirited atmosphere is just a 20-minute drive away and there are several golf courses in the area including Caleta de Fuste, host of the 2004 Spanish Open on the PGA European Tour.
