Almunecar is located in the province of Granada at the foot of a beautiful and lush tropical valley with a particularly picturesque seafront spanning 19 kilometres of sandy beaches. The layout of the old part of town is typically Moorish with steep winding streets leading from the central square, the Plaza de la Constitucion, where the town hall stands, towards the castle and highest old quarter called Barrio San Miguel. Almunecar is a perfect base from which to explore the Costa Tropical. In one day you can visit numerous localities and enjoy the surroundings. To its west there lays a forested area and the Marina del Este port, and to the east there is a fertile valley consisting mainly of fruit orchards. The identity and traditions of the people that live here are still very much alive, and many fiestas (festivals) take place throughout the year. The cuisine is another major bonus with affordable good food available everywhere, alongside the middle to high-end restaurants.
