The Dead Sea is famously known both for its extra-salty (or hypersalinated) water, and for being the lowest point in the world, at almost 400m below sea level. It’s world renowned as a centre of relaxation, in no small part due to the fact that it’s almost impossible to sink in the Dead Sea.
The sea’s banks are almost as popular with visitors as the water itself - its thick and mineral-rich nature means that bathing in it supposedly has a number of health benefits, not to mention being rather therapeutic. But if you’re looking for a real beach - and the region has the weather for it, with over 330 days of sunshine per year and temperatures topping out at 40 degrees - then Amman is the destination.
There are a number of swimming pools available there too, as well as the facilities of the hotels which border the beach. There are a number of attractions other than the Sea itself in the region too. Intrepid visitors will enjoy Mount Nebo with its panoramic views and the Hammamat Ma’in waterfalls and natural springs.
