The cultural and historic city Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region and is located on the banks of the Arno River. Long considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, the city has excellent artistic heritage and Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci both lived here and have some of their works displayed in a few of the museums. As well as the museums other notable attractions include Santa Maria del Fiore, the domed cathedral, built by Filippo Brunelleschi and the Campanile tower. The Chianti wine region is just south of the city between Florence and Siena and this area is one of the most beautiful in Italy and is well worth a visit.
