Formentor is located on the far north of the Island of Mallorca and was a playground to the rich and famous in the 1930’s. Situated 44 miles north of Palma airport, this lovely area is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. There are countless walks and hikes through dramatic and wild scenery with opportunities for horse riding. Water sports like water skiing and sailing are on offer at the sandy beach in Formentor with even more on hand at the nearby Port de Pollenca. This part of Mallorca boasts tremendous views with 400m cliffs jutting into the sea with strange rock formations lining the road to the famous Formentor lighthouse at the end of the peninsula. The caves at Raco de Xot open into the sea and are the most important sources of information from the prehistoric period of talaiot culture. The small town of Pi de la Posada is home to the famous Hotel Formentor that has been pampering the rich and famous since 1929 and is a superb spot for swimming. Alcudia Bay is a short drive away and offers lively nightlife.
