Gellért Hill provides stunning vistas across Budapest, and is the ideal place to find accommodation with a view. The 235m high hill overlooks the River Danube and is part of the 1st and 11th district of Budapest. Many local attractions can be found nearby including the Gellért Baths, where you soak in the thermal waters, and the Cituadella, which sits on the top of the hill.
The hill was named after Bishop Gellért, who arrived into Hungary from Italy in 1000AD, and is credited with helping convert Hungarians to Christianity. His statue can be seen on the north-eastern side of Gellért Hill.
The area is considered to be a World Heritage Site and although not far from the city centre, bats and hedgehogs can often be seen on the hill during the summer evenings. Only recently a crystal cave was discovered underneath the hill, which is lined with dazzling white crystals and is a protected attraction.
