Hua Hin is a hugely popular resort 200 km south west of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand. Believed to be Thailand’s oldest beach resort, Hua Hin has been a playground for the Thai social elite, including the royals, since the 1920s. Here the most common pastime is beach relaxation, eating well and generally taking it easy. There are water sports on offer, tennis courts and half a dozen golf courses just outside Hua Hin. Top end hotels enjoy prime beachside locations and there are also good quality budget hotels and beach bungalows to rent. Food lovers will not be disappointed in Hua Hin, where there is excellent, freshly caught seafood, traditional Thai dishes and international cuisine. Most hotels are just a few minutes walk to the beach, the market or a friendly restaurant. The white sand goes for miles from the Sofitel at the end of Damnoenkasem Rd. At the main beach there are umbrellas for lounging and vendors for drinks and snacks, and even pony rides, jet skis and a Thai traditional massage.
