Lagoa is a small locality near Faro in the Portuguese Algarve. The Lagoa coastline is a fantastic splash of colour with the azure waters, white sands and bright orange cliffs providing an amazing sight popular with artists, photographers and nature lovers. There is a great range of beaches to choose from, with a huge number of secluded coves just waiting to be explored. Accessible and popular beaches include Carvoeiro, Benagil and Vale de Centianes, all of which have excellent tourist and water sports facilities including sensational deep-sea fishing for marlin, swordfish and tuna. There are many first-rate golf courses within a few minutes drive of the town centre, as well as a variety of family activity centres, including Europe’s best water park, Lagoa’s Slide and Splash. The Iglesia Matriz do Lagoa (church), the Convent of Nuestra Señora do Carmo, the Manueline doorways with their windows edged in blue, and the imposing turret of the monastery create a feeling that time has stopped and suggest ways of life now long forgotten.
