The cosmopolitan city of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire is located about 45 miles north-west of London. Designated as a ‘new town’ in 1967, the city has grown considerably and is now a fantastic location for a weekend break or longer.
Despite being a relatively new city, there’s still a great deal of culture and history to find here. Milton Keynes Theatre is the most successful theatre outside of London’s West End with a selection of musicals, opera and pantomimes. Various museums include Milton Keynes Museum, Bletchley Park and the National Badminton Museum are also well-worth visiting.
Just outside Milton Keynes are the gardens at Stowe, acquired by the National Trust in the 1980s. This beautiful place to explore is made up of various lakes and valleys, as well as over 40 temples and monuments.
Shopaholics will be spoilt for choice with the number of retail outlets in the centre of Milton Keynes. From modern shopping centres such as The Centre MK to an array of farmers’ markets, there’s a huge selection of shops to suit everyone.
