Although it’s one of the lesser known emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, Ras al Khaimah shouldn’t be discounted as a great holiday destination. While it is much quieter than the more popular emirates like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, it has a fantastic natural beauty that is well worth exploring.
Ras al Khaimah is the UAE’s northernmost, most fertile emirate. Because of its close proximity to the Hajar Mountains, there are some truly spectacular landscapes to see. The town of Ras al Khaimah itself isn’t much, but explore further afield and you’ll find pristine, development-free beaches dotted along the coast. The tiny town of Rams is also worth visiting. Once a small fishing village, it hasn’t changed much. Slightly livelier is the town of Al Jazirah Al Hamra, known for having the best preserved traditional fisherman village in the UAE.
