Tholos, also called Theologos, is a colourful traditional village and modern seaside resort 20 km from Rhodes City. The shingle and sand beach is backed by scrub and low dunes, and is a popular spot for windsurfers. A smattering of shops, tavernas, bars and restaurants can be found throughout the area and the residents of this pleasant village are warm and welcoming. The old centre of Tholos is built in traditional Rhodian style on a hilltop with tall shuttered buildings and narrow streets. Visitors will appreciate the picturesque church of Agios Spiridonas, with its lovely white bell tower, and nearby the ruins of the ancient town of Istanioi is an interesting attraction.
