Bodrum in Turkey

Make it Bodrum in Turkey for an unforgettable holiday drenched in sunshine and ancient culture

Bodrum is one of Turkey's most historically significant cities. Previously known as Halicarnassus it was home to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world  (the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, built to honour King Mausolos and from where we get the term ‘mausoleum'). The Castle of St Peter is one of the most prominent buildings in Bodrum today, built in the 11th century it is now one of the city's finest museums. Another magnificent ancient site well worth visiting is the superb amphitheatre, which was built in around 300BC and built to hold 13,000 people!

Nowadays it is a thriving city and the nightlife in Bodrum is second only to Istanbul in the number of bars, clubs and restaurants. Cumheriyet is a mile-long road along the seafront in Bodrum and is chock full of lively venues, with views over the sea and the magnificent castle on the other side of the bay.

The Bodrum peninsula, on the West of Turkey, has some of the country's loveliest resorts, with powder sand beaches lapped by the azure waters of the Aegean Sea. It's worth visiting a number of these resorts during your stay, to get a feel for the variety that the area has to offer. We'd recommend visiting Yalikavak, Olu Deniz, Ortakent and Turgutreis for wonderful beaches, swimming, water sports and spectacular sunsets, as the sun melts into the watery horizon.

A superb day trip from Bodrum to explore the natural wonder of Pamukkale (often known as cotton castle) - an extraordinary natural wonder of a vast white Cliffside and frozen waterfalls, it is unlike anything you will ever have seen. The natural deep underground spring has been pouring streams of mineral-rich water here, and you should not miss the opportunity to bathe in the natural baths here.
