The delightful village of El Cotillo is a typical rustic village, centred around a small harbour where you can watch fisherman landing the day's catch. A short walk around the headland and you'll find the new harbour, where there are bars, restaurants and lovely views of boats bobbing on the water. The miles of soft, golden beaches that extend along the south of the island are very rarely crowded, even in peak season. A delightful place for gentle walks and amazing views – there's a lovely route up to the lighthouse. Perhaps El Cotillo's most recognised landmark is the tower (el toston), which sits on a clifftop overlooking the village. Originally built as a defence against English pirates, it is now an information centre, and fantastic viewpoint.
