Santorini thought to be the former site of the Lost City of Atlantis is one of the most photographed of all the greek islands due to its stunning beauty. Steeped in history, Santorini was formed in a massive volcanic explosion and there are some fantastic archeological sites to visit such as Thira and the Venetian fortress of Pirgos. Traditional blue-domed churches stand between white cubic houses built on terraces over looking the sea where spectacular sunsets must be seen.
