Gran Canaria's lovely weather and warm seas all year round make it a fantastic spot for watersports.

The Canaries are a windsurfer's paradise, thanks to the steady winds that blow around the island and you'll find lots of windsurfing schools in Gran Canaria, all along the eastern side of the island. For inspiration, head up to Pozo Isquierdo on the north coast, to watch the pro windsurfers surf in the winds up to 60mph. If you want to learn to windsurf in Gran Canaria, Puerto de Mogan is an ideal resort as it is nicely sheltered but with a constant breeze.

Sailing in Gran Canaria is also extremely popular, and it is an important location on the sailing circuit – the annual ARC (Annual Rally for Cruisers) event starts at Las Palmas, where you'll also find lots of sailing courses available if you want to learn to sail in Gran Canaria. Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico, on the south of the island, also have fully equipped sailing centres with lots of equipment to hire, and expert tuition.
