Shoppers will love Basingstoke. The town is home to the Festival Place Shopping Centre, which has over 200 shops and an impressive 10-screen cinema. Most of the town’s attractions are walkable from the train station, including the ice rink. In the heart of the town centre, look out for L’Arc, which is extremely similar to the Iran-Iraq War Monument in Baghdad.
One mile east of Basingstoke lies Basing House, a former Tudor Castle that once rivalled the likes of Hampton Court before it was destroyed in the Civil War. The ruins make for an interesting walk, all the way down past the River Lodden. Five miles to the north of Basingstoke, holidaymakers can discover the Roman ruins of Silchester, which contains an old amphitheatre and church. Back in the town centre, the Milestones Museum shows how Basingstoke may have looked in the Victorian era with reconstructed street scenes.
There is plenty to entertain visitors during the evening, from the Basingstoke Blues Club to Sanctuary Live, a pub that often features live bands. Hotels4U has a great selection of hotels in Basingstoke. Why not take a look at the accommodation options below:
