Harrogate is a pretty Victorian spa town in North Yorkshire famous for its bottled spring water that is sold throughout the UK. The floral town is also home to Betty’s Tea Rooms, which is a favourite of the Queen, who visits when she’s in the area. Due to the popularity of the tea rooms there are often queues around the block, but the nearby RHS Harlow Carr gardens has a Betty’s of its own. This is one of four of the RHS gardens and the town is also home to Valley Gardens, a Grade II listed garden.
To the North-West of Harrogate lies James Herriott country, the picturesque area where Herriott lived and wrote his books “All Things Great and Small”. Visitors here can explore some of the more active pursuits on offer in this area from Log Heights, an activity centre in the tree-tops, to Brimham Rocks and Moor, a wilderness area of strange rock formations. In the evening, the Royal Hall Theatre and Harrogate Theatre often have entertaining performances.
